“Love makes the world go round? Not at all. Whisky makes it go round twice as fast.” ~ Compton Mackenzie
Today the world went around. We headed out from our hotel early for our first tour and tasting of the day at Royal Lachnagar in Aberdeenshire. Never trust a Scotsman when he tells you something is not far away, it is generally much farther than expected. None the less the destination was worth the journey as the tour and tasting was quite wonderful.
“Whisky, like a beautiful woman, demands appreciation. You gaze first, then it’s time to drink.”
~ Haruki Murakami
Royal Lochnagar distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the Highland whisky producing area of Scotland. It close to the mountain Lochnagar. It is one of Skip’s favorite brands of Scotch, can you tell from his smile?
We traveled through the hills and valleys of Scotland to make our next tasting, but we were not able to spare the time to take pictures along the way today. The roads are winding and narrow and the countryside is quite breathtaking. Hopefully tomorrow we will have time for some pictures. We went to a private tasting at the Balvenie Distillery were we were treated to a no rush, enjoyable presentation and tasting of some of their finest scotches.
After my sixth taste of scotch all of my aches and pains seemed to magically disappear and it became a drink I could imagine drinking socially. (One of the prior statements is not true.) At any rate everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon before we had a late lunch at the Glrnfiffich distillery.
“Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whisky is barely enough.”
~ Mark Twain
We stopped briefly for a photo opportunity at both the Belvenie Castle and the Craigellachie Bridge along the way to our hotel.
We had another very good day along the way which is more than you can ask for.
“There is no bad whisky. There are only some whiskies that aren’t as good as others.”
~ Raymond Chandler
