“Happy Together”~ The Turtles

June 10, 2018

“I can’t see me lovin’ nobody but you
For all my life
When you’re with me, baby the skies’ll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba”
~ The Turtles
If you are like me at all and know the Turtles song “Happy Together” you just sang out loud in your loudest voice.  If you do not know the tune and did not sing then this essay might not mean a lot to you!  There are moments in life when you are happy and you do not even think about it.  But there are those moments when you are so “happy together” in that moment that you want the music never to stop. When, for example, you are riding in the car on Cape Cod with your husband Skip and your daughters Becca and Kristen and someone puts this song on the and everyone starts belting it out in the loudest voices and  you are laughing and smiling and bursting with happy.  Your mind, or mine, perhaps says “FREEZE FRAME” please!  I wanted to put the moment on the endless repeat mode.  It was somewhat off key, it was loud, it was quite frankly perfect.
I’ve been often blessed in my life with these kind of moments and maybe in light of all of the horrors of the world lately I’ve just been more aware and perhaps grateful to have these moments.  My son Dan and my daughter in law Ann Taylor and grandson Carter, just welcomed a beautiful baby girl Elizabeth “Betsy” Maureen to their perfect family.  We flew down to visit them and meet our granddaughter and the feeling was a Winnie the Pooh moment.
Piglet: “How do you spell love?”
Pooh: “You don’t spell it, you feel it.”
~A. A. Milne
We had a brief trip (because we do not travel enough apparently) to the most magical place on earth (other than home) Disney World, for a brief visit.  We managed to surprise some family which is always fun, but for a couple of days, despite the crowds, the heat, the rain and the travel, Skip, Becca, Kristen and I were again, so happy together.
Life, for me, is about making memories, and there is nothing better than making good ones with the people that you love.  Tomorrow, June 11th, marks the fortieth anniversary of my first blind date with Skip.  It was a moment that almost wasn’t meant to be (the nurse that was supposed to be his date changed her mind and I was runner up).  In these forty years there have been an incredible amount of happy together times.  I’m blessed that we are still making these moments and the future looks bright and well planned by excel sheets to keep making them. What’s the secret?

We are off to another adventure tonight and if I find the time and haven’t had too much Scotch or Irish Whisky I might blog about it.  If you have taken the time to read this know that I appreciate it.  If you have taken the time to make some happy moments with me along the way know that I appreciate it and I love you and I hope that we can make more together.
