“The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually.” ~ A. A. Milne

I need to find another way of saying,  “Today was another wonderful day.”  But the truth of the matter is that today was another wonderful day!  It started cloudy and rainy but when presented with a bounty  of sweets and treats and cappuccino for breakfast, and you are spending the day with good friends and a day in Italy, there is nothing that can put a damper on your day.

After we had our stomachs full we headed into the city of Cortona. We had a lovely guide Louise, who has degrees in Art History and Etruscan Architecture. We toured churches, and the main road through the city and down a few side streets.  Cortona is enchanting.

One of the shop owners was doing some construction a few years ago when he unearthed an ancient well.  There were marvelous shops and fascinating staircases to explore.

One of the nicest parts of travel is when you get to spend time with both old (as in know for some time not in age) and new friends.

“Every new friend is a new adventure…the start of more memories.”  ~ Patrick Lindsay

After a brief stop at the home of the author of Under the Tuscan Sun and a monastery, we headed back to the farmhouse for a cooking class.

We learned how to make pasta from scratch as well as braised beef, squash flowers and tiramisu.  To say we had fun would be an understatement.

The sun broke through the clouds and put an enchanting glow on the farmhouse.  We feasted on the treats of our labors, and enjoyed making memories with good friends.

“A bottle of white, a bottle of red
Perhaps a bottle of rose instead
We’ll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
You and I-face to face

A bottle of red, a bottle of white
It all depends on your appetite
I’ll meet you any time you want
In our Italian Restaurant.”

“Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” by Billy Joel
