“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” Confucius

October 25, 2014

Today was a beautiful day.   The sun was shining and warm and we saw a lovely church on part of our tour.  When we returned to the ship at lunchtime and it began cruising down the river it was peaceful.  As we sat on the sun deck the breeze was blowing and warmth and beauty surrounded us.  The engine ran of course but otherwise it was almost soundless.  One could almost forget about everything else and just absorb the scenery.   Every turn of the river was different and lovely.

Edna Saint Vincent Millay said that “Beauty is whatever gives you joy.”  And the sights today gave me joy.  Francis Bacon said that “the best part of beauty is that which no picture can express.”  I’d like to share some pictures with you of the day and I agree they can not fully represent the loveliness of the sights.

There was such peacefulness as we cruised slowly down the winding river – I hope you can see a bit of what I saw in these pictures

It brought to mind as we cruised the following lyrics from the song:

The river rolls and the river winds
And it seems to do something for my peace of mind
Though I didn’t know it, I came here looking to find
A place to forget about my troubles for awhile

from the song “River” by Yonder Mountain String Band
