“To travel is to take a journey into yourself.” Danny Kaye
In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy repeats “There’s no place like home.” The sentiment is true for home is where the heart is and certainly unlike any other place on earth. But there is no place like many of the places I have been as well. Today, I start another journey, not in the symbolic state, but Skip and I are off to Portugal for two weeks on a river cruise. I’m scared and excited. I’ve spoken before of my fear terror of flying. If man were meant to fly he would have wings.
Nonetheless I have traveled many times by plane, by train, by ship, by car etc. A few years ago we traveled by riverboat on the Danube where we met some wonderful people. This evening, Skip and I are once again off to see the wizard ( possibly an affectionate name for our tour guide Dave Natale, the king of selfies. In this blog I am going to try to follow the example of my son and daughter in law and give you a little insight, hopefully daily, of our river boat cruise on the River Douro through Portugal and Spain.
So for today before I head off to this adventure I leave you with the following thoughts.
“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember,
and remember more than I have seen.”
Benjamin Disraeli
